Campus Recruiter Job Description

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Campus Recruiter owns the sourcing, selection, and development of College Financial Representatives in the greater San Diego area. Key responsibilities of this role include building quality relationships at local universities, attending community and campus events, conducting interviews to determine a mutual fit for the Northwestern Mutual internship program, and providing an impactful program experience to enable students to explore a career in financial services.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Recruiting

  • Execute the Network Office internship recruiting and marketing plan to achieve activity & productivity goals.
  • Build referral network both internally (with colleagues) and externally (in the community and on campus with centers of influence).
  • Develop strategies for generating qualified leads from sources such as referrals, COIs, internet leads, and campus events.
  • Establish effective relationships with university professors, department heads, athletic departments, career services, and student organizations.
  • Actively participate in campus clubs and organizations to promote Northwestern Mutual’s internship program.
  • Promote and share recruiting successes within the office.
  • Develop and coordinate internship-focused marketing strategies.
  • Build relationships with other Northwestern Mutual campus recruiters to share leads and best practices.

Selection

  • Master information and language regarding the College Financial Representative career and the selection process.
  • Review resumes and schedule, conduct, and manage initial and subsequent interviews.
  • Administer and manage selection profiles for candidates.
  • Conduct subsequent interviews as needed.
  • Guide candidates through the selection process, coordinating interviews with team members and leaders.
  • Maintain the integrity of the selection process and update materials as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with candidates.
  • Oversee onboarding for interns, including contracting and licensing.

Development

  • Serve as the central owner of the internship training & development calendar.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer, College Unit Director, and College Unit Captain(s) to design, plan, lead, manage, and implement dynamic training and development meetings.
  • Provide ongoing support through weekly activity coaching for College Financial Representatives and report progress to leadership team.
  • Role-play language and direct College Financial Representatives to developmental resources as needed.

Accountability & Activity Tracking

  • Maintain database of all recruiting & selection activity, report weekly activity to leadership team.
  • Utilize supported software to maintain a candidate database and accurate records to ensure efficiency of the selection process.
  • Coordinate regular (weekly, monthly, & quarterly) meetings with the leadership team.
  • Prepare activity/results reports for leadership team meetings.
  • Update and distribute “Recruiting to Our Potential” report weekly.

Miscellaneous

  • Maintain sufficient inventory of all recruiting materials & supplies.
  • Oversee any pre-contract/onboarding training to be completed by candidate.
  • Develop programs/contests as needed to enhance recruiting and productivity results.
  • Participate in company and industry training programs and work to improve the recruiting and selection skills of the entire internship recruiting and leadership team.
  • Attend weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly recruiter development meetings.
  • Travel between different district offices and college campuses as required to execute job responsibilities above.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 2-3 years progressively responsible work experience required, preferably in sales, recruiting or financial services industry.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to build rapport and influence others.
  • Ability to apply discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with ability to learn various software programs quickly.
  • Experience with social media and professional networking platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, Handshake) preferred.
  • Passion for mentorship and helping students realize their career potential.
  • Willingness to travel within the greater San Diego area and flexible in working hours to accommodate campus events and interviews. This is an in-person position.
