Perform specialized work in the prevention and suppression of fires, as well as operating and maintaining fire department equipment and apparatus. Essential functions include responding to fire alarms, making forcible entry into buildings when necessary, combating fires, operating a variety of hand tools and equipment including power saws, hydraulic equipment, generators, fans, ladders, etc., maintaining and cleaning fire station, vehicles, and equipment, driving and operating fire department vehicles and equipment, and assisting in inspections, prevention, and public education activities.
The EMT or AEMT performs specialized work in providing life-saving services. Duties follow prescribed policies and procedures, but independent judgment may be required in certain circumstances. Essential functions include responding to ambulance calls, making forcible entry into buildings when necessary, assisting in rescue operations involving vehicle accidents and implementing correct medical procedures to the sick and injured, driving and operating vehicles and a variety of equipment, assisting in public education activities, completing appropriate records and reports, and promoting a professional image to co-workers and the public.
