BBSI has partnered with a premier Car Hauling organization based in Orange County. We are seeking an experienced Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic to help maintain our fleet of trucks and trailers.

JOB OVERVIEW:
This position requires expertise in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on both trucks and trailers, ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the fleet.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in maintaining and repairing Peterbilt 389 and Western Star 4900 trucks, as well as the Detroit DD13, Cummins IS, and PACCAR MX-13 engines. Also have hands-on experience with Cottrell trailers used for car hauling.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Engine Maintenance & Repair:

• Engine Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Perform in-depth diagnostic tests on Detroit DD13, Cummins IS, and PACCAR MX-13 engines. Use advanced diagnostic tools to identify engine issues, including power loss, abnormal sounds, and performance drops.
• Preventive Maintenance:  Conduct regular preventive maintenance on truck engines, including oil changes, air and fuel filter replacements, coolant system checks, and cleaning of air intake and exhaust components.

Transmission & Drivetrain:

• Transmission Diagnostics: Troubleshoot and repair manual and automatic transmissions, including the Eaton Fuller and Allison models often found in Peterbilt and Western Star trucks.
• Clutch Systems: Inspect and replace clutch assemblies, perform adjustments, and ensure proper engagement and disengagement.
• Drive Axles & Differentials:  Repair and maintain drive axles, differential gears, and driveshafts, including checking for proper alignment and lubrication.

Electrical & Computer Systems:

• Engine Control Units (ECU): Diagnose and repair issues related to ECUs, sensors, and engine management systems for Detroit, Cummins, and PACCAR engines.
• Electrical Wiring: Repair or replace faulty wiring, connectors, and fuses within the truck’s electrical system, ensuring full functionality of lights, power systems, and sensors.
• Diagnostics:  Use advanced diagnostic tools (such as Detroit Diagnostic Link, Cummins Insite, or PACCAR ESA) to identify and address electrical and engine-related issues.

Suspension & Braking Systems:

• Air Suspension Systems: Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair air suspension systems, including airbags, compressors, and leveling valves, to ensure a smooth ride and optimal load distribution.
• Brakes: Inspect, repair, and replace air brake components, including brake chambers, drums, rotors, pads, hoses, and slack adjusters.
• ABS & EBS: Troubleshoot and repair Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Braking System (EBS), ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Hydraulic Systems & Cottrell Trailers:

• Hydraulic Diagnostics: Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain hydraulic systems on Cottrell car hauler trailers, including hydraulic ramps, deck lifts, and tie-down systems.
• Hydraulic Pumps & Cylinders:  Inspect, repair, or replace faulty hydraulic pumps, cylinders, and valves.

Trailer Systems: Inspect and maintain the entire car hauler system, ensuring proper operation of the winch, tie-downs, leveling systems, and wheel straps.

General Truck & Trailer Maintenance:

• Tire & Wheel Maintenance: Inspect tires for wear, alignment issues, and pressure. Perform tire rotations, repairs, and replacements.
• Exhaust Systems: Perform maintenance and repairs on diesel exhaust systems, including DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) and SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) systems to ensure compliance with emissions standards.
• Fuel Systems: Inspect and maintain fuel tanks, lines, and injectors, ensuring proper fuel flow and addressing issues like fuel contamination or low fuel pressure.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience as a heavy-duty mechanic, with a focus on Peterbilt 389, Western Star 4900, Detroit DD15, Cummins X15, PACCAR MX-13 engines, and Cottrell car hauler trailers.
• Diagnostic Tools: Experience with diagnostic tools for engine management systems (e.g., Detroit Diagnostic Link, Cummins Insite, PACCAR ESA).
• Mechanical Skills:  Strong understanding of diesel engine mechanics, drivetrain components, air brake systems, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems.
• Trailer Maintenance: In-depth knowledge of Cottrell trailers, including hydraulic systems and trailer-mounted components.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues effectively and implement solutions quickly to minimize downtime.
• Attention to Detail:  Strong attention to detail, ensuring all work complies with safety and regulatory standards.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in physically demanding environments.

Certifications :

• ASE certification (preferred)
• CDL (Commercial Driver's License) (preferred)
• Manufacturer-specific certifications for Detroit, Cummins, or PACCAR engines are a plus.
