Job Summary

Under supervision of the Nurse Manager, guided by policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with the Clinical Nursing Staff, the Medical Assistant Supervisor works independently and has primary responsibility for the supervision of the medical assistant staff. He/she will be responsible for supervising the operational, human resource, and clinical competency skills of the medical assistants who work in the practice, including staff schedules. Coordinates and assigns lunches and breaks for all MA staff, and re-assigns tasks when other MA's are absent. Approximately 25 % of time is spent on administrative activities. The MA Supervisor oversees the clinic flow ensuring an efficient, well-run operation paying attention to room utilization, wait times and provider productivity.

As a working supervisor he/she also assists in the delivery of care to patients in the Cancer Center ambulatory group practices. Work includes a performing and assisting with a variety of clinical procedures, reconciling patient's medications and communicating health care maintenance reminders to assure positive care outcomes. S/he will perform assigned patient care and laboratory procedures in support of the primary or specialty care services provided to patients within the practices. S/he is required to learn and be able to assist in all Cancer Center practices. S/he is required to adhere to the Living Pride Standards and Telephone and House Standards as adopted by the Medical Center.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $76,600 - $114,900 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 years of experience as a medical assistant
  • 6 months of supervisory experience. Demonstrated competency in current role can be considered in lieu of supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise patient care support staff. Strong knowledge of practice operations.
  • In depth knowledge of patient support care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations, and internal policies.
  • Detail oriented, with the ability to apply analytical and critical thinking skills to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and apply effective solutions.
  • Solid interpersonal skills for effective collaboration and problem solving with all levels of management and staff.
  • Skills in written and verbal communications, with the ability to convey clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in clinic / center patient care.
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
  • Successful completion of required UCSF competencies for the job title MAII related to medication administration, vaccinations and nebulizer treatments within 3 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent combination of experience / training.
  • National certification as a Medical Assistant from a recognized program: NCCT, AAMA, CCBMA or AMT
  • Bilingual or multilingual capability (Spanish-Russian-Cantonese)
  • Working knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources issues and performance, and to participate in decision-making on human resources matters.
License/Certification
  • American Health Association, CPR certification
