Job Description
Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
We are hiring a skilled Remote American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to support K12 students in Texas public and charter schools. This fully remote role ensures that students who are Deaf or hard of hearing have equal access to classroom instruction, school events, and services through high-quality virtual interpreting.
Key Responsibilities:Interpret live instruction, meetings, and school activities between ASL and spoken English in real time via video conferencing.
Work closely with teachers and school staff to understand lesson plans and content ahead of time.
Support student engagement and communication in virtual classroom environments.
Maintain professional standards, including confidentiality and ethical practices in line with RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) guidelines.
Adapt interpreting techniques for students' individual communication styles and educational needs.
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelors degree in interpreting, Deaf studies, or a related field preferred.
Valid ASL Interpreter Certification:
RID Certification (NIC, CI/CT, or equivalent) required.
Texas Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) certification or Texas Education Agency (TEA) approval preferred for school-based settings.
Demonstrated fluency in ASL and English.
Experience providing interpretation services in educational settings, especially in remote/online classrooms.
Understanding of Deaf culture, student support strategies, and accessibility laws (IDEA, Section 504, ADA).
Familiarity with platforms like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet.
High-speed internet connection.
Quiet, private home workspace.
Computer with webcam, microphone, and up-to-date software.
