Surety Claims Specialist Join Avalon Risk Management as a Surety Claims Specialist and play a crucial role in supporting our claims team with reporting, filing, and customer service for bonds and customs related claims. Company Overview Avalon Risk Management is a specialty insurance broker serving the international trade and logistics industry across the U.S. and Canada. We focus on risk management and insurance solutions for importers and logistics partners. Compensation Base pay range: $47,000.00/yr – $50,000.00/yr. Salary commensurate with experience and skill set. Location & Work Arrangement Full‑time, exempt position located in Schaumburg, Illinois. After introductory training, employees may work from home or hybrid. Key Responsibilities Evaluate bond and surety claims, gathering data, researching regulations, and conducting investigations. Process claims per company guidelines including acknowledging claims, notifying clients, recording data, and issuing payments. Communicate with claimants, principals, insurers, trustors, and Customs & Border Protection regarding claim status. Conduct internet searches for current addresses of importers with returned mail. Fax, email, or call CBP for status updates and to request case copies. Assist with claims line calls and provide claim forms via email or fax. Draft claim denials based on thorough claim research. Handle CBP claims, especially late files and reconciliations, to ensure timely resolution. File petitions with CBP when necessary. Maintain currency with regulations, laws, tariff mandates, etc., to function in a high‑change environment. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Minimum 3 years of professional customer service experience within the importation industry or related fields such as contracts, finance, or billing support. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail. Highly organized with the ability to handle a high volume of claims and prioritize effectively. Proficiency with MS Word and Excel. Professional interpersonal skills and firmness with insureds. Preferred Qualifications Background in paralegal work for contract interpretation and documentation skills. Direct insurance support experience, especially in logistics. IL Adjuster license (pre‑employment). Avalon will help obtain this license and cover associated expenses.
