Job Description

Position: B Lineman - Transmission (DUKE) – Pike Corporation Overview The Class B Lineman Transmission is a semi-skilled position in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical transmission systems. This position works at various locations and may be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands. Essential Functions Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work on energized and de-energized transmission systems. Stringing overhead wire. Setting poles and anchors. Troubleshooting problems on transmission systems. Operate with energized high voltage systems and protect the lives of self and others. Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order. Perform related work as required to complete the job. Capable of rigorous physical labor. Identify transmission primary and secondary voltage on a circuit. Be familiar with induced voltage and grounding procedures. Understand proper use of phasing sticks and basic bare-hand work on 44KV and 100KV. Understand requirements for proper line clearances and wire sizes. Proficient in Pole/Tower climbing and in all aspects of heavy lifting and rigging. Possess working knowledge of grounding techniques and safe pole setting. Operate wire tensioner equipment and field equipment (sideloader, bucket, derrick). Read and understand blueprints; understand equipment setup and grounding. Work at heights and/or in confined spaces; properly install and remove PPE and cover up. Check voltage on transformers and clip in transmission conductors. Climb various structure types (wood, steel) and carry necessary tools. Understand how to phase out a line using phasing sticks and obtain a one shot on a recloser. Understand minimum approach distance and flag and tag procedures. Perform basic bucket rescue/escape and conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings. Safely install and remove mechanical jumpers and inspect rubber goods, cover and PPE. Work outside, frequently in inclement weather. Minimum Requirements 3-year minimum of field experience. Able to read and communicate effectively in English. Able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment; CDL is preferred. Able to travel long distances on short notice and work in various locations for extended periods. Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs. Able to inspect rubber goods and PPE. Willing to work overtime when required and to glove/work high voltage transmission lines. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, use hands to handle and feel, and reach with hands and arms. Work Environment The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee may be exposed to extreme conditions at construction sites. The noise level can be loud. This position is performed outdoors in varied weather conditions.
