Job summary

The Claims Assistant will be responsible for day-to-day administrative duties involving maritime claims management. The Claims Assistant provides customer support, performs clerical and administrative duties, and interfaces with claimants, medical providers, and clients, while training to develop relevant knowledge and skills necessary to assist with maritime claims resolutions. The Claims Assistant will work with co-workers and clients to gather required documentation and information related to maritime insurance claims, on instruction from insurers and insureds, to seek their efficient resolution .

The position is hybrid. Employees report to headquarters office in Cherry Hill, NJ one day a week and as required.

Responsibilities

• Perform administrative work, including document scanning, copying, and faxing
• Maintain and update databases, spreadsheets, and checklists
• Review mail for accuracy and enter data
• Communicate with claims staff, medical providers, claimants, and clients
• Arrange medical exams for sick and injured vessel crew members
• Obtain the best resolution for clients’ claim needs
• Perform bill review and invoice claims
• Any other duties that may be assigned.

Requirements

• Available to work flex schedule, which includes occasional weekend duty and performing evening duty two nights a week
• Some knowledge of medical issues/medical coding a plus, but not necessary
• Microsoft Office suite – demonstrated proficiency in Word, Excel, etc.
• Intuitive grasp of web-based software for data entry and tracking
• Self-motivated/self-starter with strong business writing and telephone communication skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Strong time management and organizational skills.

Education/experience

• Minimum high school diploma required; candidates with associate degree or higher is preferred
• Training or certifications relevant to the maritime sector will be attractive though not required
• Medical bill review or claims experience is a plus
